Sanitation Technician

-Primary Purpose of the Position: This position reports to the Sanitation Manager with the explicit purpose to implement cleaning procedures to ensure that all processing areas and equipment receive appropriate cleaning and sanitizing according to regulatory, environmental and food safety standards.

Responsibilities: The following statements describe the key responsibilities to be performed by the position. Key responsibilities are those the individual must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.

  • Adherence to company Lock Out /Tag Out and HACCP procedures
  • Adherence to all company GMPs and following company directives on regulatory, product quality, sanitation, food safety, employee and environmental standards
  • Read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and understand company requirement to comply with all directions for safe use or personal protective equipment requirements as listed on the MSDS
  • Effectively communicate with Production, Warehouse, Maintenance and QA, focusing on conducting effective and timely sanitation of specific areas within the food processing environment and pieces of equipment
  • Routinely conduct sanitation effectiveness audits and take immediate, corrective action, if required 
  • Work with Sanitation Manager to develop procedures, techniques and tests for monitoring effectiveness of sanitation
  • Performs to assure cleaning of food equipment and food processing environment is conducted per SOP requirements
  • Performs Routine Sanitation work including but not limited to area assessment, organization, cleaning, sanitizing and auditing
  • Under direction of Sanitation Manager, generate work orders, tool checklists, chemical control,
  • Assist with the documentation maintenance of the Master Sanitation Schedule and other operations-related GMPs
  • Maintain sanitation records
  • Maintain a forklift operators permit
  • Assemble and disassemble assigned equipment in a safe manner
  • Clean both warehouse equipment and the entire warehouse area
  • Transport and use chemicals throughout the plant and safely apply industrial cleaners and sanitizers
  • Communicate issues and concerns to Sanitation Manager
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Responsible for food safety and quality

Minimum Requirements: The following is the requisite education and/or work experience for this position.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 2 years of previous food sanitation experience preferred
  • AIB Food Sanitation and Hygiene certificate required or willingness to obtain
  • Fumigation certification required or willingness to obtain
  • MSDS Training preferred
  • Experience with regulatory FDA/USDA (Federal and State) requirements of Food Plant Sanitation
  • Basic knowledge of all types of sanitation equipment and an understanding of industrial sanitation chemicals and cleaning methods (CIP, COP, other automated systems, etc.)
  • Knowledge of SOPs and company GMPs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed

Utilizing analytical skills is important as well as ability to follow direction in an environment where a sense of urgency, in terms of maximizing production and minimizing downtime, is present.
